My name is Alla Kiroshka, but most people know me as Dr. Alla.

I was born in Moldova, one of the ex-Soviet Union republics, now an independent country. As the daughter of medical doctors, the love for the world of medicine has been a part of my being from childhood.

In 1983, I became a qualified Medical Doctor (M.D.) specialising in Facial-Reconstructive Surgery. Despite my love for surgery and my skill in the operating room, fate had other plans for me. After a good few years of being in practice, I developed an allergic condition that prevented me from continuing my career as a surgeon.

Though I had access to the very best medical doctors and resources, traditional medicine failed me. No one could pinpoint what exactly I was allergic to and none of the conventional treatments were working.

I became so ill that I spent most of my days in bed. I had tremendous difficulty walking and talking. It got to the point that I was finding it very hard to breathe. I could feel my life slowly slipping away from me.

Then, a family friend - professor of medicine in China - learned of my condition and suggested that I try some medicinal mushrooms since traditional allergy treatments were not working for me. He recommended three varieties of medicinal mushrooms - Reishi, Maitake and Shiitake.

Unfortunately, these products were not available in the Soviet Union, and it was not possible to obtain them via the usual channels during those Cold War days. So, our family friend devised an innovative way to get them to me.

One day I received a package from him in the mail. It was a 500-page medical reference book. When I opened it, what I initially assumed to be dust flew out of the pages. However, I quickly realised that this was no ordinary 'dust' - it was the powdered version of the recommended mushrooms. No instructions had come with the powdered medicinal mushrooms. So, I devised my own dosages and began taking them.

Within 2 or 3 days, I started seeing small improvements - my appetite and strength were returning. By day 10, I was up and about. The results I was experiencing were nothing short of miraculous! Each day the symptoms were diminishing and eventually were totally gone.

Today, many years later, medicinal mushrooms are a regular part of my health regimen. The benefits are so great that I have no desire to stop taking them.

Rather than return to the operating theatre, I decided to pursue another lifelong dream of mine - having my own business. In 1990, I started one of the first privately owned medical enterprises (i.e. clinics) in Moldova.

In addition, while furthering my academic qualifications, I began my research on medicinal mushrooms. Unfortunately, political restrictions continued to prevent me from being able to import them and share them with others. This only fueled my desire to move to a country that allowed free trade.

A few years later, an opportunity to do so presented itself. I immigrated to South Africa, where I lived for over 15 years in magnificent Cape Town at the foot of Table Mountain. It was there that I was finally able to realize my desire to help others experience the healing effects of medicinal mushrooms.

After much research, I started sourcing and importing the best quality of these medicinal mushrooms. That led to encapsulating, marketing and distributing of these fantastic products.

And so MediMushrooms Centre was born!

Before long I had a team of distributors in South Africa, and my MediMushrooms business flourished.

As my knowledge and experience grew, I learned of other medicinal mushrooms that were as powerful and would compliment the ones that I was using already. My product range of medicinal mushroom supplements expanded to include two more, Lion's Mane and Cordyceps. After a visit to New Zealand in 2006, I fell in love with this beautiful country. So, in 2007, I moved there with my family and brought over my MediMushrooms business.

July 2008, I opened Organic Health Centre in Bishopdale, Christchurch where I offered health consultations and sold my line of natural health supplements based on medicinal mushrooms. I also started another range of natural dietary supplements.

One year later, I moved my services to a more central location in City Centre, Christchurch. This new location was much more conducive to my vision of a one-stop, holistic approach to health. In addition to my services and products, Organic Health Centre had on-site specialists offering their services in the fields of Accupuncture, Bowen Therapy, Massage Therapy, Reflexology, and Reiki.

Over time, my Simplicity range expanded to include over 30 varieties of natural dietary supplements. The quality of each and every product is superb, and all products are TAPS approved.

My business was booming in New Zealand and I wanted to give it my full attention. So, a few years ago, I sold the South African branch of MediMushrooms to Fran Fainman giving her the rights to manufacture, market and sell my MediMushrooms products in South Africa and Israel ONLY. However, to ensure that the high quality expected of my products continues to be upheld and to maintain a level of consistency, I was providing the raw materials and the formulation for each product.

Well, this is now in the past. As of December 2017, I no longer supply Fran Fainman with the original MediMushrooms products. As result, I am not in position to guarantee the same high standard and consistency of the products she sells. The legal team is working on stopping Fainman from misrepresenting the MediMushrooms brand.

Over the years, I have developed trusted relationships with my suppliers and I work closely with them to source top quality raw materials. The medicinal mushrooms in MediMushooms range of products are grown in their indigenous climate and have never been exposed to any harmful elements used to artificially enhance their growth. There has been no use of any pesticides or other harmful substances.

Currently, my products are manufactured in New Zealand at certified manufacturing plants and I personally supervise all the steps of the production - from the supply of the raw mushrooms to delivering the end product to you.

As people experienced the tremendous benefits of using my MediMushrooms supplements, they shared this with their family and friends. The clientele at MediMushrooms is growing at a steady rate and consists not only of New Zealanders but of people from all over the globe including Canada, U.S.A., U.K., France, Italy, and Holland.

Tragedy struck when Christchurch was rocked by two massive earthquakes. The first one, measuring 7.1, struck on 4th September 2010 and caused tremendous destruction but fortunately no deaths. The second one which followed six months later on 22nd February 2011 was more destructive and resulted in the death of 185 people.

My business, Organic Health Centre, was housed in a building on 608 Colombo St in Christchurch and was severely damaged. Later it, along with many other buildings in that area, was completely demolished!

This unexpected turn of events required me to adapt to the changing times. Up to that point, my business was primarily an offline one. Yes, I had a website up and running, but it was mainly for informational purposes. It had not been set up for selling my products. Now, with my storefront gone and the central city centre in ruins, I needed to start selling online. This I began to do in the latter part of 2011.

Today, my business is primarily web-based and available 24-7 to people all around the world. I continue to offer health consultations free of charge. I am forever grateful to late Basil Smith, my best friend and partner in some of my businesses at the time, for the incredible support, encouragement and love; without his numerous sacrifices and unselfish dedication to me and my visions, none of my dreams would have been as rewarding;

2007: Immigrated to New Zealand; MediMushrooms Centre relocated to Christchurch, New Zealand;

2008: Opened the 1st Retail Shop in Harewood Road, Bishopdale; trading as Organic Health Shop.

2009: Opened 2nd Retail Shop at 608 Colombo Street, Christchurch - this has grown into Organic Health Centre, well on its way to become a franchise group. The MediMushrooms range and Dr Alla’s “Simplicity” range of dietary supplements as well as many other health related products were offerred in the retail section; Consulting rooms have been opened for a number of natural health specialists;

4th September 2010: Business temporarily closed after the 7.1 earthquake caused serious damage to the building;

November 2010 – February 2011: Partial access to the building; Repair work in progress; due date to re-open is set for Tuesday, 15th March 2011;

22 February 2011: 6.3 earthquake completely destroys the facility and the business in the heart of Christchurch, the entire central part of Christchurch is Red Zoned; Organic Health Centre is permanently closed; the building was demolished among hundreds of others. Sad reality!

March 2011 to Present: Due to the earthquakes, the structure of the business itself was forced to change; Dr Alla's MediMushrooms range of dietary supplements are sold primarily online. The consultations are available via emails, phone or Skype.
